Garlic is a plant in the Allium (onion) family.
It is closely related to onions, shallots and leeks. Each segment of a garlic
bulb is called a clove. There are about 10–20 cloves in a single bulb. Garlic
has been used all over the world for thousands of years.

spicy flavor that mellows and sweetens considerably with cooking. The distinctive aroma is mainly due to organo sulphur
compounds including allicin present in fresh garlic cloves and ajoene which
forms when they are crushed or chopped.
